August Salt

29 August 2006

With various lochs in Caithness notably Watten and Stemster clogged with weed overgrowth after the July heatwave we have been experimenting with sea fishing principally for sea trout and sea bass. Fishing the salt is not a new skill to Lesley but this year she has been giving the spinning rod a whirl with it has to say, mixed results! While she has caught a number of trout and sea trout on small `jacks' and spinners, the sea bass remains elusive but she is is still trying. Best sea trout catches have actually been on the fly with the Teal Blue & Silver, the Butcher and the Zulu doing the best. Maybe its a case of once a fly fisher always a fly fisher...
