July Bonanza

24 July 2007

Despite some rather driech cool conditions July has proved a bumper month for many anglers both local and visiting. Watten has consistently produced trout in the 2lb range to olive and spritz varients and Loch Shallag also rendered excellent baskets to anglers willing to make the plod and row. Loch Calder had an excellent hatch of mayfly this year and good trout up to 1.5lb have been caught. The Reay lochs gave up some spectactular big trout to dry fly imitations but continued fickle through most of the latter half of July. Best flies have been the Shallag Olive, Green Peter, Green Drake, Blitzen, Olive and Claret Bumbles.
