Rain in abundance

01 October 2008

The expected September rains arrived extremely late this year, 30th September to be exact and despite abundant water and rivers in spate their impact arrived too late to make a lot of difference to the trout fishing. Watten closed without any late season flourish and as I write only Loch Calder and the Reay Lochs have had any good bags reported. Some excellent large trout have steadily come off the Reay Lochs in fact 2008 has been their best season for quite some time. Lesley celebrated the impending seasons end with a goodly trout of 1lb 4oz on a dry Red Sedge despite cold Northerly gales and heavy showers. The Forss river has been in raging spate over the last 2 days with hundreds of salmon seen leaping the Falls and racing upstream. If the river gets a chance to fine down excellent sport will be expected with fresh fish being seen amongst the red spawners in some number.
