June on the Caithness Lochs03 July 2009
June opened in typical cold windy wet fashion however some good trout were taken on Calder, St Johns and Watten. but The end of the month saw a complete transformation proving very warm and sunny with temperatures peaking at 27degreesC+, incredible for Caithness! Consequently the manyfly hatch was fast and furious and on some lochs like St Johns the fish became stuffed full of mayfly and became a little picky except in the evenings when temperatures cooled slightly. The Reay Lochs continued to produce good trout but again suffered in the high humidity. Productive patterns were Black Muddlers, Kate McLaren, Pennel and Red Sedge along with all the appropriate mayfly imitations.
