July Successes19 August 2009
July proved a hot humid month for Caithness with temperatures as high as 25degreesC on some days. The hot thundery weather made fishing conditions more difficult than usual for this normally productive month however some great catches were recorded notably from Loch Calder where the July mayfly hatch was incredible this year. Anglers were regularly coming off the water with double figure bags for their day. Best flies were the Kate McLaren varients, B&P Spider and all dry yellow Mayfly imitations. Watten continued well with many of the larger trout being caught out more in the middle next to the profuse weed which has sprung up in all this hot weather. Given the right tide times and water height the Halladale estuary also surrendered up some nice finnock which are having a good year there.
